This green, avocado smoothie has all of the nutrients you need in the morning; fat, fiber, protein and greens, keeping your blood sugar in balance and leaving you satisfied for hours.
This smoothie is inspired by Kelly LeVeque at @bewellbykelly. After reading her book, “Body Love,” I started incorporating the Fab Four into my daily life. If you are unfamiliar with the book, its all about balancing blood sugar. The fab four she refers to are protein, fat, fiber and greens. Combining those four items into each meal (the right way) keeps you feeling full and satisfied, without the blood sugar drop, which leaves you craving carbs, getting irritable, etc.
I read the book because I was feeling out of whack for a while with my own health. Some days I felt great and energetic and others I felt super blah and irritated. I think a lot had to do with not getting enough protein throughout my day, and eating too many carbs (sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc.) without thinking about what they were doing to my blood sugar.
I highly recommend the book (this is NOT an ad!) if you are curious on learning more about blood sugar balance, and how food choices affect how you feel each day. This book really is going to be life changing for so many people.
Now, back to the smoothie. =)
What’s in the Green Avocado Smoothie:
When I make my smoothie, I add ingredients into the blender in this order…
Liquid- 1 cup vanilla Milkadamia Unsweetened Vanilla Macadamia Milk (you could also use water or another unsweetened liquid of choice, but this nut milk is super tasty with it!)
Fat- 1/4- 1/2 avocado
Protein- use your favorite (preferably non-dairy) unflavored protein powder. I’m currently using organic pea protein or Vital Protein unflavored collagen. Aim for 20-30 grams of protein. (If you are replacing the vanilla liquid with water, you could use a vanilla protein powder here).
Fiber- 1-2 tbsp chia seeds, flax seeds or another fiber source
Greens- add a handful of greens. Here you can use mixed greens, kale, spinach or collard greens- you choose your favorite. (If using frozen greens, add about 1/4-1/2 cup)
Lemon- add 1/2 – 1 squeezed lemon into the smoothie for flavor. Don’t skip this!
Cucumber- 1/4 cup chopped cucumber (you can leave the skin on)
Mix everything until well blended. Feel free to add in a handful of ice to give it more of a smoothie taste and feel!
This smoothie has been made on repeat lately. It makes me feel great so I don’t plan on switching it up any time soon. =)
Enjoy, friends!

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear you didn’t like it. Are you adding enough lemon? That ingredient is a must! You could experiment with vanilla flavored protein powder if unflavored doesn’t give it enough flavor!
