This brown basmati rice is the perfect texture, super easy to prepare and great to serve as a side, or in a dish.
Using the instant pot method is the only way I make this rice now. It’s simple to prepare, and while it cooks, you are free to do other things around the house without worrying about it boiling over (like the stove top method).
Serve it plain, or to make this cilantro lime flavored, just add chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime!
Meals you can make using brown basmati rice:
- Stir Fry: This Stir-fry can be made with or without meat. It only takes 20 minutes to put together! Plus, you can use whatever veggies you have on hand, or add in what’s currently in season!
- Roasted Vegetable bowls: This recipe calls for quinoa, but you could easily use rice instead
- Baked fish and roasted vegetables
- Quesadilla with a side of cilantro lime rice
- Burrito bowls
- Seasoned black beans and rice
To make the rice: (this will make about 3 cups, cooked rice)
Ingredients needed:
- 1 cup brown rice
- 1 1/4 cup water or vegetable broth (vegetable broth adds a better flavor, but not required)
Directions:
Using a fine mesh strainer, rinse the rice under cold water.
Pour rinsed rice into the instant pot, followed by water or vegetable broth.
Cover and set valve to “seal” High pressure cook for 24 minutes. It took my instant pot around 5 minutes to come to pressure.
Your instant pot will beep when the 24 minutes are up. Allow to natural release for 10 minutes. (Set a timer).
Once the 10 minutes are up, carefully release any remaining pressure. Open the lid, fluff with a fork and serve!
Enjoy, friends!
